About IMDi
IMDi implements the government’s integration policies. The directorate is responsible for strengthening the competence of municipalities, public authorities, NGOs and employers in the field of integration and diversity.
IMDi’s tasks span administrative levels, sectors, and societal areas, making good cooperation with other stakeholders essential for fulfilling its mission.
IMDi operates under the Ministry of Labour and Inclusion (About the Ministry - regjeringen.no ).
The directorate was established January 1, 2006, and has approximately 275 employees working in Oslo, Narvik, and as front-line diversity advisors deployed in schools across all counties in Norway.
Our tasks:
- Managing the settlement of refugees.
- Facilitating increased participation of immigrants in work and social life.
- Combatting negative social control and honor-related violence.
- Serving as National authority on interpretation in the public sector.
- Providing input for the further development of integration policies and ensuring effective coordination in the field of integration.
- Administering grant schemes aimed at municipalities, county authorities, employers, and voluntary organizations.
- Producing and disseminating research, reports, statistics, and best practices.
- Contributing to a professional and service-oriented public sector.
Goals for 2025:
- Goal 1: More immigrants participate in the labor market.
- Goal 2: Qualification programs for newly arrived immigrants are targeted and of high quality.
- Goal 3: Immigrants have a high level of participation in social life.
- Goal 4: Refugee settlement is well-coordinated, rapid, and accurate.
- Goal 5: The public sector has sufficient access to and effectively uses qualified interpreters.
- Goal 6: Integration policies are comprehensive and well-coordinated.
